LUCAS LEIVA SET TO BE AXED THIS SUMMER
Liverpool long time star Lucas Leiva is set to be axed this summer, according to reports.
The relevance of the Brazilian is always a source of debate amongst fans but this time it seems both sides of the divide are in consonance. After a decade at the Merseyside, Leiva would likely end his stay.
Leiva was converted to a centre back as current coach Jurgen Klopp sought to give him some relevance in the set-up. With the Reds set to make UEFA Champions League next season, Klopp would have to optimize his team list. The 30-year old is among the players that might see their time at the club come to an end.
Lucas has been a subject of perennial speculation but there are reported clubs in the Serie A that are willing to sign him. Since injuries set in post-2011, Leiva has not been the same player for The Pool.
With Klopp demanding high level energy and constant pressing, hemight not be able to offer much. Klopp would also have to work on the defence during the end of this term as it has hindered them from reaching greater heights. And Leiva might not contribute as much with his blend of qualities.
Leiva has quite an influence in the dressing room based on the length of time he has spent. So he could be barely used on the pitch while he makes up for that by providing moral support. He could be that team player that just features without making much of a difference like the latter days of Martin Skrtel.
Skipper Jordan Henderson and Phillipe Coutinho have spoken of his importance in the dressing room so if Klopp decides to retain him and use him as a sub or when high priority players have to rest, it doesn’t harm the team in anyway.
