Martin Skrtel suffered another Head Injury
Martin Skrtel suffered yet another head injury while playing for Liverpool.
This time, the injury was offered during the FA Cup sixth round match against Blackburn Rovers. The match finished as a 0-0 draw, which takes the tie to a replay at Ewood Park. Liverpool failed to capitalise on the great run of form shown in recent weeks. The physical approach from Blackburn proved even more difficult for the Merseyside club after they lost Skrtel due to an injury early on. Manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that the defender did have some bruises that he was fine.
Skrtel has had a history of suffering head injuries, but without any major complications, in his time at Liverpool. He had to be carried off on a stretcher against Blackburn, which prompted speculation that the defender may not have been so lucky this time around. The Slovakian defender, who is on course to replace Steven Gerrard as the club’s new captain, has been a major force behind the club’s rejuvenated form in the last few months. At the start of the season, he failed to form a good partnership with new signing Dejan Lovren. Results have improved substantially once the duo have started setting a new partnership.
Rodgers also confirmed that he expects Gerrard back in training shortly. "He's fine, but he'll go to the local hospital just to make sure. I think if he had his choice, he wouldn't, but we have to follow procedure and our medical experts. But he was fine - he was up walking about and talking after the game. But as a precaution, we just need to make sure he's okay. He'll [Gerrard] be back training next week, I'm sure, and available for the Swansea game (on Monday),” said Rodgers. Liverpool are fifth in the table – two points behind Manchester United.
