SKRTEL WANTS ASSURANCES
Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel has said that he needs plenty of assurance from the club at that they are ambitious in the same way that he is, according to Liverpool news.
The 27-year-old Slovakian international has a linked with a move away from Liverpool in the summer, with Premier league champions Manchester City being touted as the possible destination.
This would come as a major blow to Liverpool and their hopes of qualifying for the Champions League at least next season. The departure of Martin Skrtel would also be a major headache for new manager Brendan Rodgers, who will be hoping to retain all the best players for the next season.
Liverpool had a dismal season under manager Kenny Dalglish last season when they finished in the eighth position. Kenny Dalglish paid the price for the poor season with his job. Brendan Rodgers was brought in to replace Kenny Dalglish at the helm. He will be hoping to convince Martin Skrtel that the club are ambitious.
It is thought that the 27-year-old Slovakian is very much interested in playing in the Champions League. Liverpool have been without this Premier European competition for the last two seasons now, while the current one is the third season without Champions League football.
“Some changes have been made at the club and he (Martin Skrtel) wants to know what the aims and ambitions are. And of course, we will discuss the issue of Martin’s new contract. We need to make sure Luis Suarez is staying. Liverpool is a big club and just because they haven’t made the Champions League this year doesn’t mean they would not do it next year. There are expectations on both sides, though,” said Skrtel. Manchester City have identified Martin Skrtel as a possible replacement for Joleon Lescott after having failed with a £ 35 million bid for the AC Milan defender Thiago Silva.
