Skrtel ecstatic after the 5-1 victory

Martin Skrtel said that the opening 20 minutes which Liverpool played against Arsenal in the weekend is one of the best openings which he has ever been involved in. The Merseyside team demolished Arsenal 5-1 at Anfield as Liverpool scored 4 goals in the first 20 minutes with Martin Skrtel scoring the opener from a Steven Gerrard free kick. Brendan Rodgers the Liverpool manager hailed Martin Skrtel as one of the greatest defenders in the world after his fine display in the match against Arsenal. Skrtel managed to find the net twice in the match and both came from set pieces inside the first ten minutes. Liverpool could have easily made it six or seven had they not missed some easy chances.

Sterling was on the verge of a hat trick after he scored the fourth and fifth goal and was close to scoring the third for him. Skrtel said that he was feeling really great as people were stopping by to thank him for such a great game. He still could not believe that such a thing has actually happened because they were not really playing their best football since January after having lost their first place in the Premiere League.

There were rumors that Skrtel was thinking about moving from Liverpool as he lost his place in the first team. However he was determined to make a solid comeback which he has done and proved the manager and the fans that his time is not up for the club yet. In the pre season warm up games he did not feature actively.

In an interview after the match against Arsenal he said that fighting for the first team position has always been something which he has done from the first day of his career. His comeback match was against the defending champions Manchester United where he showed a good defensive character as the Merseyside team managed to win the game by a goal to nil.
