Skrtel Undergoes Surgery to Fix Broken Nose
Martin Skrtel is in a race to play against Manchester United in the Europa league after suffering a broken nose. Incredibly, the defender has been playing with a broken nose for the last two games. He has now decided to undergo surgery, but only just days before the visit to Old Trafford to play against Manchester United.
The Premier League outfit, now managed by Jose Mourinho, will be one of the favourites to win the competition. As the club are currently struggling to achieve consistency in the league, winning the Europa League will be seen as a route to qualify for next year’s Champions League.
Skrtel knows United extremely well after having come up against the Red Devils on numerous occasions during his extended spell with Liverpool. The 31-year-old spent eight seasons at Anfield before moving to Fenerbahce in the summer. The commitment displayed by the Slovakian defender has been extraordinary, as he has played with a broken nose even during the weekend.
Fenerbahce have to win this game at all costs in order to think about qualification to the knockout stages. A win for United would put them in an advantageous position going forward. Fenerbahce have struggled for form throughout the campaign and they are 10th in the table after having taken only nine points from the opening seven matches.
Consistency has been the biggest problem for the team and they have also struggled to defend well, which is surprising considering that Skrtel has played in all of the seven games. “Surgery went well,I dont think I will be look better than Brad Pitt, but at least I can breath. Now hurry up to start recovery to get ready for next game!” joked the Slovakian on his Instagram account after undergoing a surgery. Fenerbahce’s only win in the Europa League was against Feyenoord in the previous match.
